Dear Russell,
I guess our conversations started last winter. I was in the process
of schooling a horse at the riding farm where I was taking lessons.
The horse belonged to my barn manager. “Daisey” was a 12-year
old, “green” Thoroughbred who was a pasture horse all her life.
I started working with her last October riding her English style.
Having been a pasture horse and receiving very little attention,
Daisey became quite enamored with me, and I fell for her too. She
was thin, and her coat was a bit dull and unhealthy.
By January I knew I wanted Daisey to be my horse and asked my barn
manager if she would sell her to me. She agreed but insisted I first
get Daisey “vetted out” to ensure her soundness and health. I took
her to a movement expert veterinarian. After gaiting Daisey, the
vet told me she was lame. He said I could move on to another
horse—I said that was not going to happen. So, we did x-rays and
thermographies of her legs. Being a pasture horse she did not have
shoes, and her feet were pretty bad. He recommended the angulation
to trim her hooves and a farrier and told me to see if she comes
around.
A month went by and Daisey still needed a pre-purchase health
exam—as the movement vet did not do pre-purchase exams — his focus
was lameness. When another vet from a different clinic came out
to do the exam she first had me gait Daisey up and down the
walk. After doing that 3 times, she told me my horse was lame and
that she didn’t want to continue with the pre-purchase health exam—that
there “were plenty of sound horses out there to own and that I
shouldn’t pursue this one.”
I was absolutely heartbroken that night. . but not ready to give up
on Daisey. I always followed holistic/homeopathic medical advice for
my cats and dogs, but horses were new to me. I got connected with a
holistic horse expert who recommended three things:
1. Recovery
EQ Equine Mobility Formula for Daisey’s current lameness
2. BioPreparation
3. Rice bran pellets added to her feed
Well, a month later I took Daisey to the lameness vet and
her lameness was almost completely gone. Two months later it
was gone. Better yet, Daisey’s overall health and coat are
phenomenal. She gained weight, her hoof growth improved and her coat
is probably the healthiest and shiniest in my entire barn of 20+
horses.
I have attached “Before & After” photos for you. I now feed
BioPreparation F2+ to all my dogs as well. BioPrep is a mainstay for
all my pets. Thank you for a great product!
Thank you!
