Do you have general fatigue and a loss of energy and/or appetite? Are you
suffering from itching, dermatitis, or hives? Do you have unsettled sleep
patterns often waking up around 3:00 AM? All of the above symptoms could be caused by the build up of unfiltered toxins in the blood. In
traditional Chinese medicine the time between 1:00 – 3:00 AM is the peak time
our bodies use to filter the blood through the liver. A weak or congested liver
means the body has to struggle and work harder to purify our blood (thereby
causing one to wake up around 3:00 AM). If one is suffering from stress or
depression, excessive alcohol consumption, taking drugs such as tranquilizers,
sleeping pills, and anti-histamines the liver could be in a weakened state. Many
food and chemical dependencies, such as addictions to tobacco, caffeine, drugs,
alcohol, and sugar may originate in the liver. Fortunately, we have many
therapeutic essential oil solutions.
Research has shown that helichrysum dilates the liver ducts and facilitates the
release of toxins and poisons from the system. Other single oils to help the
liver detoxify are German chamomile, Roman chamomile, sage, geranium, and
rosemary. An excellent blend to help break addictions to substances such as
coffee, alcohol, drugs, and tobacco is JuvaFlex. For a simple good night’s sleep
due to all the above symptoms you might try applying some of the above oils to
the liver area (just below the ribs on the right side) before going to bed or
when you wake up around 3:00 AM. For any health problems we recommend you see a
qualified healthcare practitioner. A serious liver cleanse might be in order.
Would you like a simple way to deal with emotional issues that is totally
natural and non-toxic? Flower remedies or essences may be the answer for you.
They were first developed by English physician and homeopath Dr. Edward Bach in
the 1930's. He developed a complete system of 38 flower remedies to treat all
emotional conditions in humans, plus a mixture of five flowers for emergency
treatment (Rescue Remedy™). Since the time of Bach, numerous other systems of
flower remedies have been developed but many people still just use the Bach
remedies due to their simplicity and effectiveness.
Flower remedies are created by picking flowers at their peak and placing them in
a bowl of water in the sun. The water then becomes the stock flower remedy,
containing the vibrational essence of the flower. To
dispense the remedy, a few drops of the stock solution are added to a glass
dropper bottle containing spring water. Several remedies can be put into the
bottle and used together, if desired. While up to 7 remedies can
be used together, I find the best results with using just one or two.
Since the remedies don’t contain actual extracts of the plant, as do herbs or
essential oils, they are completely safe to use, with no side effects. They are
very gentle, even for extremely sensitive people. Also, they will not interfere
with other treatments. You don't have to believe in flower remedies for them to
work, as is attested to by their widespread use in animals. Animal shelters and
holistic vets commonly use the Rescue Remedy™ mixture to treat the trauma of
abandonment, abuse and surgery.
Examples of flower remedies from the Bach line and some conditions where I have
used them include:
Heather—to treat a needy, clingy Golden retriever. The owner reports the
dog loves the remedy and has improved on it.
Larch—to treat lack of self confidence. An entrepreneur reports increased
confidence in building her business after a couple of days on this.
Scleranthus—to treat imbalance, including hormonal imbalances and motion
sickness. A client reports her menopausal symptoms diminish whenever she takes
this.
Walnut—to treat over-sensitivity to change, including allergies. A client
reported her sinuses cleared up immediately after taking this.
Clematis and Wild Oat—to treat apathy and lack of purpose. This helped our
elderly, hypothyroid cat to become livelier.
Aspen, Mimulus and Larch—this helped with separation anxiety and fear in a
dog.
While the remedies are designed to treat emotional conditions, they will
often help physical problems that have an emotional component. Since the
remedies are totally non-toxic, you can feel confident in trying them out on
yourself, though it is useful to work with an experienced practitioner who is
familiar with determining which remedies to use for which conditions.

Bach Flower Remedies for Animals by Stefan Ball &

There are several good books now with information on how to use Bach Flower
Remedies with animals. This one is recommended by the Bach Centre in England,
which attests to its quality. We particularly like it because it is very
comprehensive and contains many case studies. The case studies can be useful for
generating ideas about which remedies to use in a particular case. For instance,
we looked up "separation anxiety" in the index of this book when looking for the
best combination of remedies for a dog with this problem. This gave us some
additional ideas about remedies to try, beyond what we came up with by just
reading descriptions of the remedies. We then formulated a mix of remedies that
proved effective in helping the dog.
This book is also quite useful in that it contains information on understanding
animal behavior. Since you can't talk to your animals to find out what is
disturbing them, it is important to learn to interpret their behavior
objectively, so you can select the appropriate remedies for them. Without this
understanding, the tendency is to interpret their behavior as if they were
human, which often leads to misunderstanding of what they are feeling.
