We have found for our own health and the health of our animals, that a good
source of probiotics (good bacteria) is essential in our diet, in addition to
the enzymes and nutrients in BioSuperfood and
BioPreparation. A good
"industrial-strength" probiotic is absolutely essential after taking any
antibiotic(s), since antibiotics kill off both bad and good bacteria
indiscriminately. While eating yogurt is good for maintenance, it does not
supply enough friendly bacteria to be therapeutic. Young Living
Essential Oils produces a probiotic product, called Life 5, that we have
had excellent success with.
A high-potency
probiotic, Life 5 builds and restores core intestinal health by
providing five clinically proven probiotic strains including three
advanced super strains to enhance intestinal health, sustain energy and
improve immunity. Life 5 contains 8 billion active cultures and improves
colonization up to 10 times in humans.
To order Life 5 online, go to our
online Young Living site,
then click on Product Catalog, choose the Nutrition category, then Supplements
A-M, then Life 5. We recommend keeping it refrigerated to preserve the
potency of the probiotics in it.
We do not recommend using Life 5 for animals, since the probiotic strains
were specifically selected for the human digestive tract. We personally use
Garden of Life's:
Primal Defense® ULTRA Ultimate Probiotic Formula for out pets. We were particularly impressed with this product after seeing our elderly
cat, Connie, get well from a mystery illness when we added this to her diet.
Although Connie was on a good raw diet supplemented with BioSuperfood formula-F3
(the most therapeutic formula), she became sick in November 2003. We don't know what was
wrong with her—she had a strange combination of symptoms including frequent
belching, diminished appetite, lethargy and depression. She also had something
wrong with her throat that made her unable to meow and caused her to
occasionally gag/cough like something was stuck in her throat. Our theory is
that she may have had difficulty transitioning to an all-raw diet after a
lifetime of commercial, cooked pet food. We started giving her the probiotic,
mixed in with her food and she immediately started improving. After a few weeks,
she was back to her normal self and able to meow again, with no more cough.
