The newly formed Colorado Natural Pet Care Association was founded by Judy Jasek, DVM, at Belleview Animal Clinic. The Colorado Natural Pet Care Association is sponsoring its first Natural Pet Care Expo designed to educate the public about natural and alternative healthcare for pets.

Raw Dog Food Launch

Do you want your dog to live to be 15-20 years old and still be healthy? What does that desire and Chipotle Mexican Grill have in common?  The answer is Jim Adams. Jim Adams is a marketing executive who rode the exponential growth of Chipotle Mexican Grill for 11 years. He left the company in 2008. His Chipotle roots schooled Jim in founder Steve Ells' mission to use organic products and naturally raised meat whenever possible and their commitment to serving livestock and growing produce raised using responsible, respectful and sustainable techniques. In order to solve his own dog's health challenges, he stopped feeding the traditional grain-based dry kibble food and started cooking real food for him. Jim decided to translate what he learned about good food at Chipotle's into making real healthy dog food. Redbud's Raw Dog Food was founded with the sincere purpose of helping all dogs achieve great health. The food, named after his dog Red, a long-haired Dachshund, is made from antibiotic-free and hormone-free chicken, ground chicken bone, and organic vegetables and fruit. His food is 80% meat and 20% fruits and vegetables (an ideal ratio for canine carnivores). It comes in frozen 1-pound packages that sell for $5.99.

Will It Still Work If...?

We send a welcome letter and Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) document with every first order. These beginning suggestions and usage guidelines are based on our 85+ years of holistic experience and that of our 3,100+ client base. We want each of our new customers to get the same maximum benefits we and our clients have experienced, as well as our/their pets. After reading our introductory documents we always get subsequent questions such as, Will it still work if I...? The short answer is, Yes, our holistic products will still work but you or your pet will not realize maximum benefits. Here are the long "wholistic" answers.

Will your product work if I...

1. ...do not drink purified water?
   Algae help the body detoxify without using potent and harsh herbs and supplements. These latter detoxifying supplements can pull too much, too fast out of the body. Using a whole food product, such as algae, is gentler, more natural and "wholistic." But if the body does not get enough pure water (juice, tea, soda and beer do not count), then the wastes and toxins are not flushed out and accumulate in the body. This is the prime reason a body breaks out in a rash after starting a good holistic product. The kidneys and liver cannot process all the toxins pulled out and so pushes the excess waste out the largest excretory organ of the body: the skin. So, one is spending money to pull out wastes then recirculating the toxins because not enough water is available to flush them out. Will one still get benefits, Yes, but not the maximum. If one only needs 60-70-80% benefits to become balanced then, No, one does not need to drink more water. If one is not getting all the results they want or does get a rash then, Yes, drink more purified water. Taking more capsules to get more benefits will not work and probably will make the rash (detoxing) worse.
    
2. ...do not spread out the total daily amount over the entire day?
   Whole food products work better when a constant supply of super nutrition is in the bloodstream. Diabetics know how important this concept is because they have to measure their glucose level in their blood and regulate their insulin so that they have a constant supply in their body. So maximum results can be obtained from our whole food products if one keeps a constant supply of the super nutrition in the blood. In this way, the glands and organs never experience extreme high and low energy levels. For example, if one decides to take six capsules per day maximum benefits can be obtained by taking one capsule every 2 hours. Will it work if one takes two capsules (every 4-5 hours with meals) three times per day instead? One will still get benefits but not as much. Will it work if one can only remember to take three capsules twice per day (breakfast and dinner)? Yes, but even less benefits will be realized. The same principle from #1 applies. If one only needs 60-70-80% benefits to become balanced then, No, one does not need to take six individual capsules per day. If one is not getting all the results they want, then taking capsules twice or three times per day may not be enough. By spreading out the daily intake of capsules, one can actually get more benefits without taking more capsules (costing more money). The choice is up to the individual (time vs. money).
    
3. ...still drink soda pop every day?
   Soda pop is not good for the body because of the high levels of phosphoric acid and sugar content. The phosphoric acid makes the body more acidic and therefore, prone to a poor immune system. The high levels of High Fructose Corn Syrup (HFCS) are reported to average 10 teaspoons of equivalent sugar in each 12 oz. can. What is so bad about that?

• Eating or drinking 100 grams (8 tbsp.) of sugar, the equivalent of two- and-a-half 12-ounce cans of soda, can reduce the ability of white blood cells to kill germs by 40 percent.
• The immune-suppressing effect of sugar starts less than thirty minutes after ingestion.
• One teaspoon of sugar can depress the immune system for two hours. An average can of soda pop would then depress the immune system for 24 hours.

Taking a superfood product to balance the immune system and then drinking soda pop that depresses the immune system is counterproductive. Will it work if one still drinks soda? Yes, but even less benefits will be realized. The same principle from #1 applies. If one only needs 60-70-80% benefits to become balanced then, No, one does not need to avoid drinking soda pop. If one is not getting all the results they want, then we would suggest one stop drinking soda. The choice is up to the individual.

Diet soda is not any better because the body now has to cope with the side effects of artificial sweeteners.

4. ...take medication?
   One should certainly continue taking their prescribed medication while starting our whole food products. Because our whole food products make the WHOLE body more efficient, everything that goes in the mouth will obtain greater utilization and absorption. Because of this increased efficiency, it is therefore necessary to check with your doctor or vet to see if current medications can be slowly decreased.
   
   While taking medication the body's kidneys and liver must work overtime to process these foreign substances. Allopathic drugs also force the body to produce a response (raise or lower a value or level). Both of these conditions make it harder for the body to become balanced since one is trying to force an artificial response. Realistically, less benefits will be observed while taking or giving whole food products and also medication.
    

5. ...continue to take isolated supplements?
   Recent research is now starting to show more imbalances and even harmful side effects can happen when taking isolated supplements. This is the reason Optimum Choices does not carry any isolated supplements even though we are a holistic wellness company. Consider this recent research:

   • Early infant multivitamin supplementation is associated with increased risk for food allergy and asthma. (PEDIATRICS, Vol. 114, No. 1, July, 2004, pp. 27-32)
   • There is now strong evidence that antioxidant supplements—vitamins A, C and E and beta carotene—are not effective in protecting against gastrointestinal cancer. On the contrary, there may be a small increase in mortality from these tumors among people taking antioxidants compared with a placebo. (Goran Bjelakovic, professor, internal medicine, University of Nis, Serbia and Montenegro; Eric Jacobs, Ph.D., senior epidemiologist, American Cancer Society, New York City; Oct. 2, 2004, The Lancet)
   • Patients in the Vitamin E group (daily doses of 400 IU) had no significant difference in cancer incidence, cancer deaths, and major cardiovascular events but higher rates of heart failure and hospitalizations for heart failure. (Effects of Long-term Vitamin E Supplementation on Cardiovascular Events and Cancer, March 16, 2005, Journal of the American Medical Association, 2005;293:1338-1347)

We do not believe we are as smart as Nature when it comes to combining all the necessary vitamins, enzymes, amino acids, trace minerals, etc. to make things work the way they were designed to in the body. Quite often we have seen a client create an imbalance by taking high therapeutic doses of an isolated supplement in order to "cure" a symptom. For example, one client's dog stopped getting yeast infections in his ears after they stopped giving high therapeutic doses of glucosamine. Glucosamine provides yeast with a source of energy as well as an important building block for overgrowth and a flare-up of Candida symptoms. Read more about the side effects of glucosamine. Our whole food products contain low amounts of each nutrient in the products so they are totally safe and have no side effects like supplements.

By now you get the picture. Doing any or all of the above will definitely reduce the maximum benefits of our whole food products. If the 60-70-80-90% benefits you do get is enough to balance the body and eliminate your or your pet's symptoms, then that is good. If you try and decrease your isolated supplements or reduce your intake of the whole food product after three months and the symptoms come back, then your body has not achieved enough balance to stand on its own. The choice is up to you. Each one must balance the time-effort-money issues to suit their own lifestyle and desire for wellness and longevity.
