Oil of the month

ReleaseTMRelease #3408

(#3408) - $30.75/$35.61/$40.46

How many of you make New Year's resolutions (or attempt any life changes) and never succeed? Do you constantly repeat the same patterns (e.g., same relationships, boring job, accidents)? I have found that whenever the simple solution (i.e., formula, product or therapy) does not work, then there generally is an emotional, mental or spiritual imbalance or blockage that I need to resolve first. Essential oils excel at helping us release these stuck patterns and blockages by accessing the amygdala gland, the seat of our stored emotions. When we get in touch and release the emotional pattern or blockage, then the solution can now take effect. I personally have used ReleaseTM essential oil blend to help release anger over being laid off three times in less than one year, release anger after losing my career as an Internet Project Manager, forgive the driver who ran a Stop sign and totaled my car and process a parent's death.  After I got in touch with the stored anger (that can result in liver toxicity, chi stagnation, immune system dysfunctions) and allowed forgiveness and gratitude, I could then move forward with my life and make the meaningful changes necessary to start my own business (2002).

Usage

May help stimulate a sense of harmony and balance within the body, mind and spirit to facilitate releasing anger (e.g., liver congestion, toxicity) and frustration (e.g., blocked heart, fulfilling one's dreams). Helps release memory trauma from the liver in order to create emotional well-being. Letting go of negative emotions and frustration enables one to progress in a positive way bringing about a sense of peace and emotional well-being.

Ingredients

Ylang Ylang (Cananga odorata) increases relaxation; balances male and female energies. It also restores confidence and equilibrium.
Lavandin (Lavandula x hybrida) is antifungal, antibacterial, a strong antiseptic, and a tissue regenerator.
Geranium (Pelargonium graveolens) stimulates nerves and assists in balancing hormones. Its aromatic influence helps release negative memories, thereby opening and elevating the mind.
Sandalwood (Santalum album) is high in sesquiterpene compounds which stimulate the pineal gland and the limbic region of the brain, the center of emotions and memory. Used traditionally in yoga and meditation.
Blue Tansy (Tanacetum annuum) is anti-inflammatory and helps cleanse the liver and lymphatic system. Emotionally, it combats anger and negative emotions and promotes a feeling of self-control.
Carrier Oil: Olive oil.

Application

Diffuse, directly inhale, or add 2-4 drops to bath water. Apply over liver or as a compress. Massage on bottom of feet and behind ears. Dilute 1:15 with vegetable oil for body massage. Put 4-8 drops on cotton ball and locate on vents.

Supplements vs. Whole Food Products

by Russell Louie

Whenever a symptom surfaces the temptation is to run to the health food store and buy a 'holistic' supplement to take care of it. But is this really holistic? The definition of allopathic medicine is to introduce a substance into the body to produce an effect different than that produced by the disease being treated. In other words, if the body is hot, then one would allopathically treat this symptom by introducing a substance that would make the body cold (the net effect ideally would be to return the body to normal temperature). While many allopathic medicines will do exactly that, the problem is some drugs are so strong and focused on one symptom (not holistically balancing the whole body) that there are sometimes side effects that could be worse than the symptoms. Also, by only suppressing the symptoms, the original cause of the disease is never fixed. So, is introducing a 'holistic' remedy (albeit natural) into the body to cool down the fever really holistically treating the body? No, it is still just treating the symptom. Now, don't take this the wrong way. If one develops a 104º fever (especially in young children), it would be sound advice to do whatever is necessary (holistic or allopathic) to prevent it from increasing or carrying on for too long. But we feel it is equally important to not only treat the symptoms (i.e., fever) but also look at the body holistically to try to balance the source of why the body is sick in the first place. This is true holistic wellness.

Ever since science has been able to isolate nutrients and active ingredients, the tendency has been to make those ingredients purer and stronger. If a patented process could be developed, that would be even better. There is a plethora of isolated supplements with wonderful claims of boosting your immune system, increasing white blood cells, reducing cancer, detoxifying the liver, increasing energy, etc. But recent research is now disputing the benefits of that philosophy. There have been many research articles published within the last 2-3 years that show therapeutic dosages of certain vitamins and antioxidants do not decrease the chances of disease and in some cases slightly increase the chances of symptoms and produce side effects. Consider these studies:

  • Early infant multivitamin supplementation is associated with increased risk for food allergy and asthma. (PEDIATRICS, Vol. 114, No. 1, July, 2004,
    pp. 27-32)
  • There is now strong evidence that antioxidant supplements—vitamins A, C and E and beta carotene—are not effective in protecting against
    gastrointestinal cancer
. On the contrary, there may be a small increase in mortality from these tumors among people taking antioxidants compared with a placebo. (Goran Bjelakovic, professor, internal medicine, University of Nis, Serbia and Montenegro; Eric Jacobs, Ph.D., senior epidemiologist, American Cancer Society, New York City; Oct. 2, 2004, The Lancet)
  • Glucosamine may impair insulin secretion through competitive inhibition of glucokinase in pancreatic beta cells and/or alteration of peripheral glucose uptake. Patients with diabetes should be cautious since glucosamine may affect insulin sensitivity or glucose tolerance. (Physicians Desk Reference for Non-Prescription Drugs & Supplements, 2005)
  • Trials testing the effect of vitamin supplements and low fat diets have failed to show reduced rates of chronic diseases, and in some cases have even shown increased risk. ("Whole Foods Seen Superior to Supplements," Vital Choice Wild Seafood & Organics, Dec 30, 2007, Issue 189, Volume 4, www.vitalchoice.com)

So, even with the best intentions, by taking isolated supplements we may be doing harm and holistically unbalancing our bodies. Is there a better or more holistic answer? According to the whole food article cited above (www.vitalchoice.com), "...scientists who study the effects of foods on health are beginning to challenge the reductionist, "magic bullet" approach toward nutrition research, which mimics methods used to test and make drugs. Instead, it's looking more and more as though many whole foods offer much more than the sum of their parts." We believe the next paradigm in holistic health will be found in using and consuming whole foods and whole food products and not supplements (which are not entirely holistic). Did you know taking digestive enzymes is not holistic and will leave a lazy pancreas? For more information and studies on why supplements are not entirely holistic see our article Supplements and Vitamins vs. Whole Food Nutrition.
