There is a new paradigm or holistic truth
(the world is not flat anymore) starting
to overtake what most people today call "holistic." I estimate
about 90% of what the media and mainstream society thinks is
holistic IS NOT. Here is misconception #3 in our series.
About 90% of the time when someone takes
themselves or
gives to their pet an algae product, the immune system improves.
The rash goes away, the infection clears up, the kidneys or liver
detoxify, the lumps disappear, etc. So, the assumption is algae products
must boost the immune system. What if the body's immune system is
attacking itself and producing antibodies that are destroying
healthy
cells. This is called an auto-immune condition (such as, SLO, IMHA).
Typical allopathic (Western) medical treatment is to give steroids or an
immune suppressant drug to decrease the function of the immune system, so
it stops "attacking" the body. Based on the results of the algae
product above, one would conclude it is not okay to give an algae
product to a body with an auto-immune disease because one does not want
to boost the immune system and accelerate an auto-immune condition.
Unfortunately, this conclusion is based on the old allopathic paradigm
of Cause & Effect and is incorrect.
In allopathic medicine, one introduces a substance into the body to
cause a desired effect. One gives a red pill to raise a condition (such
as for a hypothyroid-low
thyroid), while
one gives the blue pill to suppress a condition (such as
hyperthyroid-high thyroid). In order to use this
principle, one must have extensive lab tests, an exact diagnosis and
sometimes even intrusive surgery to prescribe an appropriate drug or treatment.
Here is the fallacy regarding the above algae product conclusion. One
rarely sees the other 10% of cases where the body's immune system was
overactive and after taking an algae product, the immune system calmed
down and returned to normal. The above conclusion was based on the 90%
of cases observed and did not take into consideration the other 10% of
the possibilities. The algae product supplied the super nutrition and
the body normalized, not artificially boosted, the immune system like a supplement would.
Algae are whole foods and the
correct blend of algae will BALANCE all the body's glands and
organs and
thereby normalize the
immune system, not selectively increase or
decrease it. The algae are simply
supplying the proper super nutrition, so the glands and organs in the
brain can become balanced. When the glands and organs in the brain
operate in perfect synergy together, it is the brain that will normalize
all bodily functions. So, it is perfectly safe to give a
true holistic algae blend to a
body with an auto-immune condition. This false conclusion
regarding algae boosting the immune system is not the only
misconception.
When using the Cause & Effect principle, it is always the product (drug,
supplement, herb) doing the healing and not the body. For instance, one
would use Product A for arthritis but Product D if one had a
digestive
problem. Each product causes a specific effect and, therefore, it is the
product doing the "healing." This is NOT holistic but instead, uses the
same allopathic principle (introduce a substance into the body to cause
an effect) of drugs, only using natural supplements. The real
misconception, is that in true holistic healthcare, one uses whole food products
that neither increase or decrease
the immune system. These whole food products simply feed super nutrition
to the WHOLE body thus balancing all its glands
and organs. When all the glands and organs are in balance, the immune
system naturally becomes normalized. It is the body doing the healing and not the product. This
is what we call healing from within or healing from the top>down. We
are
NOT supplementing the symptoms but balancing the whole body.
How can one tell if the product is doing the
healing and not the body? Here are some questions to ask.
If the body is truly healing from
within and not dependent on the product, can the product amount be
decreased over time and not have the symptoms come back?
Isolated supplements are usually made
from a concentrate of just active ingredients or made from a
patented extract to treat a single symptom, disease or cause a
single effect. Does the "holistic" product contain the whole food
source and all its components, such as pulp, peel, skin, etc.
If the answer is, NO, to the above
questions, chances are the product is simply a supplement that just
treats symptoms and not a whole food product that balances the whole
body. While supplements are not inherently bad, one needs to be
aware of the
disadvantages to make an adequate decision over truly holistic
