Pet Food RecallsHere is the latest recall: Blue Buffalo's Life Protection Formula Fish and Sweet Potato Recipe The pet food recalls continue. The best "wholistic" suggestion to prevent danger to your pet is — STOP feeding dry kibble dog food. In our "wholistic" opinion, dry kibble dog food is the least nutritious form of food to feed a carnivore. Furthermore, a majority of all pet food recalls is with dry food. Canned food, freeze-dried food and raw food have a much lower percentage of recalls. ********************************************************************************* Human Cat Allergy ReliefWe were asked if anything can be done for a human who was allergic to their own cat. They loved their cat dearly and could not think of getting rid of him but needed relief from their cat allergy symptoms. While the first part of our answer will seem logical, the second part of our answer will surprise many people. A pet allergy is a reaction to certain, normally harmless, proteins in the pet's urine, saliva or dander (dead skin cells). Pet hair is not an allergen contrary to popular opinion. The hair can collect dander, urine, saliva, mold, pollen, bacteria, etc. thus causing a human reaction, including swelling and itching of the membranes, stuffy nose and inflamed eyes. Some people can get itchy eyes after petting an animal from subsequently touching their eyes. Anyone with an allergy (to pet, pollen, mold, food, etc.) has an obvious immune system deficiency. This also tells us wholistically, that the endocrine (glandular) system is also out of balance. If the endocrine and immune systems are not functioning at 100%, then the body cannot eliminate wastes and toxins efficiently. A toxic body might thus see a normally harmless substance as an allergen and start the immune process of attacking it, releasing histamines. To boost up the immune system doctors usually treat the adrenals and thyroid glands. But these are secondary glands so this is just treating the symptoms. If the secondary glands are imbalanced, one can be sure the primary glands are too: the pituitary (master gland), pineal and hypothalamus. So in addition to the allergy medications, herbs, supplements, nasal sprays and anti-itch cream one might use to treat the allergy symptoms, we suggest nutritionally supporting the primary glands in the brain to balance the entire endocrine and immune systems from within. Bio-algae concentrates (BioSuperfood) supply the body with the nutrients of Vitamins A, B-complex, C, D, E and K, essential fatty acids of Omega-3, Omega-6, Omega-9, GLAs (Gamma-Linolenic Acids), ALAs (Alpha-Linolenic Acids), DGLA (Dihomogamma-Linolenic Acid), DHA (Docosahexaenoic acid) and more fatty acids, over 4,000 enzymes, 20 amino acids (nutrients for the brain), phytonutrients, antioxidants (super nutrition for the brain), chlorophyll, all known trace minerals and elements and thousands of other nutrients so the body can normalize the entire endocrine (glandular) system (not just the adrenals and thyroid) including the primary glands in the brain. When the whole body is hormonally balanced and all the glands (including adrenals and thyroid) and organs (for example, kidneys, liver, lungs and intestines) are functioning at 100%, then all functions (including the immune system) may return to normal. We call this "awakening the genius within" by balancing the WHOLE body and not just treating the symptoms. While this may not work for someone with a severe imbalance or allergy, most people will see some relief with lesser symptoms. The second half of our wholistic answer applies to the source of the allergen, the pet. If a pet is fed nutrient-deficient dry kibble (see our Pet Food page), their bodies will produce more dander (dead skin cells). Switching to a more species appropriate diet of raw food (see Raw Food Sources), freeze-dried raw food and even holistic premium canned food will provide the necessary dietary moisture creating less dry skin problems and therefore, less dander. This is reducing the source of the allergen rather than just supplementing the allergy symptoms in the human.
If the pet food is supplemented with Essential
Fatty Acids (EFAs) from a plant source (oil from corn, safflower,
sunflower, flaxseed,
etc.), these Omega oils are not as readily digested and utilized by a
carnivore. That is because Nature did not design a carnivore's body to
get its EFAs from plants. Furthermore, research shows that absorption and utilization of nutrients from an extracted
food source is only 20-25%. Absorption and
utilization of nutrients from a whole food source (such as algae, whole
fish-not extracted fish oil capsules) is 90-95%. One of the first
benefits our clients reported after giving their pet
BioPreparation is a
shinier, silkier coat. They ask us if we put Omega oils in the capsules.
No, the microalgae naturally contain Essential Fatty Acids (see Omega
oil list above) in
their native form. Fish are a secondary source of Omega oils since they
absorb the algae from the water. So, by giving fish oil capsules and
adding plant-based Omega oils to pet food, one is paying for very
inefficient supplementation and you pet is pooping out 75-80% of the
benefits (and your money). Being nourished by a native source of Essential Fatty Acids
(microalgae, whole fish), the pet will produce less dander and shed less fur. Even
though the fur is not an allergen itself, the fur does collect the
allergens of pet dander, urine, saliva, mold, pollen, bacteria, etc.
just like a lamb’s wool duster attracts dust, dander, pet fur,
cobwebs,
etc. in your house. So, by nutritionally improving a pet’s food, one can
lessen the dander
allergen, decrease fur shedding and neutralize the proteins in the pet's urine and saliva
making them less allergenic. There is no such thing as a completely
hypoallergenic pet.
