Our entire “wholistic” philosophy can be illustrated by a quote from Dr. Robert Goldstein, DVM, “Show me a dog or cat with fleas and I’ll show you an animal on the wrong diet.” (Flea-Free Forever, Phillips Pub. Inc., MD.). All wild canines and felines are exposed to fleas. But it is only those already sick, frail and elderly animals that succumb to an infestation. This is part of Darwin’s 'survival of the fittest' evolutionary law. This same "wholistic" principle applies to people too.  In general, healthy animals (and people) do not succumb to Lyme disease, ehrlichiosis, babesiosis, Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever, heartworm, West Nile Virus, etc. But in our modern day society we shock the immune system of our pets with annual vaccinations when current research shows vaccine benefits may last at least 3 years or longer in dogs and cats. Then we feed them a nutrient-deficient dry kibble diet, totally inappropriate for a carnivore in our “wholistic’ opinion. One of our holistic vets calls dry kibble “diabetes in a bag” for cats. We supply chlorinated tap water (potentially thyroid disrupting), void of Nature’s most abundant nutrient source they would naturally get in the wild, algae. Is it any wonder that dogs and cats have half the life expectancy they had 60 years ago? For both pets and people we feel our first line of defense against any viral outbreak (such as Ebola, H1N1, swine flu, enterovirus 68, etc.) is to eat a species appropriate diet full of whole superfoods (such as our bio-algae concentrate products) and avoid processed and pre-packaged foods (with white flour, white sugar, soy and GMO ingredients).

H1N1 Virus

Here is a human anecdotal example: when the H1N1 virus was going around Dr. Roland Thomas’ daughter was living in a dormitory. Everyone on her floor got (or tested positive for) the H1N1 virus except her. Of course, his daughter had been taking the whole superfood product, BioSuperfood-f3, for many years already. Is this scientific proof of viral prevention? No. You be the judge as to what is good for balancing your body.

The August 2006 International AIDS Conference in Toronto boasted of progress in the fight against AIDS, when really, the fight against AIDS, just like the fight against cancer is a billion dollar sinkhole. Let me rephrase that by adding “the way that they are fought by most of the organizations involved”. The boasting did motivate me, however, to relate the following “handful of dollars” story of Daniel and his successful “fight against AIDS”.

In February 2004, Nita D., a Boulder MD and holistic practitioner, reported Daniel’s case to me and suggested we follow his progress together. Daniel had been diagnosed as HIV positive several years earlier and was seeing his condition worsen alarmingly. His regular MD suggested medication, but Daniel wanted to look for an alternative solution and met Dr. Nita in the process. Following her recommendations to use BAC and to change his eating habits, Daniel saw his viral load dropped significantly in just a few weeks. He would send me copies of his lab report each time he got one done. Let me tell you his perspective of his continued progress in his own words:

“I am HIV positive. I just got my latest lab work back and it’s great! My viral load is stable at about 10,000 (the nurse practitioner said she was very surprised at just how stable it is), and my T-cells are up! To over 400. That’s the highest they’ve been in over a year. If you will recall, exactly one year ago my viral load was at 139,000 and the T-cells barely over 250, prompting the docs to want to start me on meds. But then I started the BAC.

I am especially impressed with the numbers because since October, when I returned from Brazil, I’ve been dealing with some very difficult emotions like grief, sadness, and some depression. There has been a lot of stress as I’ve tried to find a job (still looking). Also, I haven’t been very strict nutritionally as that has been difficult as well. Given these factors, I’m so thrilled that my numbers are so good. It gives me new energy and motivation to eat right, and continue trying to make good lifestyle choices. But I think if it weren’t for the BAC, the picture would look very different right now. Thank you!”

UPDATE – February 2006 -
Daniel wrote again in February 2006 following a visit to his regular MD for lab work (his results showed a viral load of 17,000 and CD4 at 447):

“I just received my results from my regular MD. He says ‘Dan, numbers look good. Get the test done again in 3 months’.”

UPDATE – May 2006 -
Following another test, Daniel sent this note on May 5, 2006.

“My latest results show a drop in viral load to just over 5,000. My CD4s are stable at about 414. Interestingly, my numbers continue to look good despite huge amounts of stress at my work. Additionally, my relationship broke up 3 months ago which has also been very difficult emotionally and psychologically. But I continue to take the BAC and the numbers are either stable or have actually improved.”

What does all this mean for Daniel?

First, let us discuss what the test results mean. Viral load tests are reported as the number of HIV copies in a milliliter of blood. If the viral load measurement is high, it indicates that HIV is reproducing and that the disease will likely progress faster than if the viral load is low. A high viral load can be anywhere from 5,000 to 10,000 copies and can range as high as one million or more. A low viral load is usually between 200 to 500 copies, depending on the type of test used. This result indicates that HIV is not actively reproducing and that the risk of disease progression is low. A viral load result that reads “undetectable” does not mean that you are cured. It may mean that the level of HIV virus in your blood is below the threshold needed for detection by this test.

Daniel has managed to reduce or stop the progression of his disease without any medication and its nasty side effects and with just a few capsules of BAC per day along with easy changes to his diet. As commented by Daniel, he is doing well even if he has not been “perfect” in his diet and has been under a lot of stress.

How does BAC help with HIV?

Let me set the record straight. A) It would be unfair to Daniel and to natural health to claim that BAC is a remedy for HIV. It would ignore Daniel’s “self healing power” and the power of “Let thy food be thy medicine”. It would remove Daniel’s responsibility to stop eating badly, to eat well, exercise, rest and sleep well. Applying these few simple disciplines alone will reduce his viral load. B) BAC is not a remedy for HIV nor for any specific disease such as diabetes, Alzheimer’s, fibromyalgia, etc.

FIV

One final pet example: FIV (Feline Immunodeficiency Virus) in cats is in the same retrovirus family as FeLV (Feline Leukemia Virus) but they are genetically different and their affects in cats is much different. FIV cats usually have poor coats, persistent fever and a loss of appetite. According to vets, this is not because of the primary FIV infection but due to secondary infections of bacteria, viruses, protozoa, and fungi that are always present in the environment. Remember, only those with a weakened immune system are affected. Usually, within 4–6 years of infection about 20 percent of cats die. On a positive note, over 50 percent of FIV+ cats will remain without clinical signs of the disease. In the later stages of the disease, when wasting and frequent secondary infections are present, life expectancy may be less than one year. What can a pet parent with a FIV+ cat do? Here is what one FIV client does:

Essential Oils

Another useful holistic tool in supporting the body with any type of infection is essential oils. The Thieves® Essential Oil Blend made by Young Living essential Oils is based on a formula used by thieves in the Middle Ages. These spice merchants used oils to protect themselves from the plague (Black Death) as they robbed the dead. The King caught them and gave them a choice.
